I really enjoyed this unit because relationships are an extremely important part of my life. As it is seen in the first piece, I depicted the relationship between me and my sister. I decided to focus our picture in the center of the page because she is at the center of my life. Bang also says that "The center of the page is the most effective 'center of attention'. It is the point of greatest attraction" (pg 62). This was the other reason that I placed the picture in the center of the page, so that it showed the viewer where I wanted their attention and focus to be. This particular studio would be great in an elementary classroom because it gives the students an opportunity to depict a relationship in their life in a very unique way. The second studio was one that I really enjoyed because it gave me the chance to tell a story. According to Pink, "We are our stories" (pg 115). I agree with this statement that we are our stories because we use our creativity to foster something great and our creativity is what defines us. That is why I enjoyed this studio so much because it allowed me to be creative and think outside the box. This is an activity that I most definitely want to do in my classroom because I would love to see the stories and postcards that my students can come up with. The third and final studio was one that I greatly enjoyed. I really liked that fact that I was able to depict my sorority house as my home away from home. I chose the quote "home is where the heart is," because I truly believe that your home is wherever your love is. When I'm at school, my love is with my friends in Chi O who have become my second family here. This is one art project I would like for my students to do so that I am able to see where there love lies and where they consider their home to be. As a whole, I really liked how each studio focused on a different relationship in our life and how we were given some freedom to choose how we wanted depict our relationships.
